The legally binding agreement between you and NomNomVegan Oy governing your access to and use of the NomNomVegan application and website.
Please read these Terms of Use carefully before using NomNomVegan. By creating an account or using the Service in any way, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
These Terms of Use ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User", "you", "your") and NomNomVegan Oy ("Nomnom", "we", "us", "our"), a company incorporated and operating under the laws of Finland.
These Terms govern your access to and use of the NomNomVegan mobile application (available on Android via Google Play), the website at nomnomvegan.com, and any related services, features, content, and functionality (collectively, the "Service").
By creating an account, installing the application, accessing the website, or using any part of the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation.
NomNomVegan is a community-driven product vegan verdict database and barcode scanner. The core function of the Service is to allow users to scan product barcodes and receive an indication of whether a product is considered vegan, based on community-submitted data and automated fallback sources.
Verdicts displayed in the Service are based on community-contributed data, user feedback, and automated scoring algorithms. They are provided for informational and convenience purposes only.
NomNomVegan Oy makes no warranty, guarantee, or representation that any product verdict is accurate, complete, up-to-date, or suitable for your specific dietary requirements, health needs, ethical standards, or religious obligations.
Product formulations, ingredients, and manufacturing processes change frequently. A product marked "vegan" may contain non-vegan ingredients due to reformulation, cross-contamination, or data lag that has not yet been reflected in the database. Always verify directly with the manufacturer or by reading the product label if a verdict is critical to your health, safety, religious observance, or any other significant decision. Do not rely solely on the Service for allergy, medical, or severe ethical decisions.
We strive to maintain high availability of the Service, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be unavailable due to scheduled maintenance, emergency maintenance, infrastructure failures, or circumstances beyond our control. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, with or without prior notice, and without liability to you.
Some features of the Service may be labelled as "beta", "experimental", or "in preview". Such features are provided as-is and may be changed or removed without notice.
You must be at least 13 years of age to use the Service. If you are located in the European Union or the European Economic Area, you must be at least 16 years of age, or have obtained verified parental or guardian consent, to create an account and use the Service.
By registering, you represent and warrant that you meet the applicable age requirement for your jurisdiction.
To access the full functionality of the Service, you must register for an account using your Google Account via Firebase Authentication. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and to keep your account information updated.

You may not create multiple accounts, create accounts using automated means, or create accounts to circumvent a suspension or ban.
Your chosen display alias ("username") is visible to other users in the community feed, leaderboard, and on your public profile. You agree that your alias will not be offensive, misleading, impersonating, or otherwise in violation of these Terms. We reserve the right to require you to change your alias or to change it ourselves at our sole discretion.
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, NomNomVegan Oy grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable, personal licence to:

All rights not expressly granted to you are reserved by NomNomVegan Oy.
"User Content" means any content you submit, upload, post, or transmit to the Service, including product contributions (product names, barcodes, ingredient lists, vegan status claims), photographs, feedback votes, written feedback, and your display alias.
By submitting User Content, you grant NomNomVegan Oy a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, sublicensable, and transferable licence to use, copy, modify, adapt, translate, distribute, publicly display, publicly perform, and create derivative works of the User Content, in connection with the operation and improvement of the Service and in any medium or format now known or later developed.
This licence continues even if you stop using the Service or delete your account with respect to User Content that has been incorporated into the community product database, as that data serves the community as a whole.
By submitting User Content, you represent and warrant that:
You understand that product contributions you submit become part of a community database that other users rely on. You accept responsibility for the accuracy of contributions you submit. Deliberately submitting false, misleading, or malicious verdicts (e.g. marking a clearly non-vegan product as vegan) is a serious violation of these Terms and may result in immediate account suspension.
All product contributions are subject to review by human moderators and automated trust scoring. We may approve, reject, edit, or remove any User Content at our sole discretion for any reason, including accuracy concerns, violation of these Terms, or for operational reasons. Approval of a contribution does not constitute endorsement of its accuracy.
You agree not to, and will not permit others to, use the Service to:
We are committed to maintaining a high-quality, accurate, and community-friendly platform. To that end, NomNomVegan Oy retains the following rights, exercisable at our sole discretion:
We reserve the right to remove, reject, or refuse to publish any User Content at any time, for any reason or no reason, including but not limited to:
We may edit product names, ingredient lists, verdicts, and other contribution data to correct errors, improve clarity, standardise formatting, or resolve conflicts between contributions. We will not alter the fundamental substance of your contribution without good reason.
We may temporarily or permanently restrict your ability to submit contributions, post feedback, access community features, or use other parts of the Service if we determine that your activity violates these Terms or is harmful to the Service or community.
We are not obligated to monitor User Content, and the existence of a moderation queue does not mean we review all content before it becomes visible to other users. We rely on community feedback reports as well as automated scoring to flag potentially problematic content.
We are not liable to you for any loss arising from the removal, rejection, or editing of your User Content under this section.
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time through the app (Settings → Delete my data). Upon account deletion, your personal data will be deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Approved contributions incorporated into the community database may be retained in anonymised form.
NomNomVegan Oy reserves the right, at its sole and absolute discretion, to suspend, restrict, or permanently terminate your account and/or access to the Service, with or without prior notice, for any reason, including but not limited to:

If your account is suspended or terminated, you may contact us at [email protected] to request a review of the decision. We will review appeals in good faith but reserve the right to uphold termination decisions without reversal. We are under no obligation to reinstate any account.
NomNomVegan Oy is not liable to you or any third party for any damages, losses, or costs arising from the suspension or termination of your account under this section.
We offer an optional recurring paid subscription ("Pro") which, while active, provides unlimited daily barcode scans, a boosted reputation floor, and access to any other features we designate as subscriber-exclusive from time to time.
Current subscription pricing is displayed in the app and on the Google Play Store listing. Prices are shown in your local currency as determined by Google Play and include applicable VAT where required by law. We reserve the right to change subscription pricing at any time. We will provide reasonable advance notice of price changes, and continued use after a price change takes effect constitutes acceptance.
The Pro subscription is billed on a recurring basis through Google Play. By subscribing, you authorise Google Play to charge your payment method on a recurring basis until you cancel. The subscription automatically renews at the end of each billing period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. All billing, payment processing, and refund requests for Google Play purchases are governed by Google Play's Terms of Service — NomNomVegan Oy does not process payments directly.
You may cancel your Pro subscription at any time through the Google Play Store (Google Play → Subscriptions → NomNomVegan Pro → Cancel subscription). Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you retain Pro access until that date. We do not offer refunds for unused portions of a billing period except where required by law.
We may add, remove, or change the features included in the Pro subscription at any time. If we materially reduce the benefits of the Pro subscription, we will provide notice and may offer a pro-rated refund at our discretion.
If your account is terminated for violation of these Terms, your Pro subscription is terminated immediately without refund. If you terminate your own account, your subscription will be cancelled and any remaining subscription period will be forfeited.
Free accounts are entitled to a fixed number of barcode scans per calendar day ("Daily Quota"), as displayed in the app. The Daily Quota is enforced server-side and resets at midnight UTC.
Additional scan credits ("Extra Balance") may be earned through:
Extra Balance credits accumulate and are deducted before the Daily Quota. Credits have no monetary value and are not transferable, refundable, or redeemable for cash. We reserve the right to adjust credit amounts, earning conditions, and redemption rules at any time.
Circumventing the quota system through multiple accounts, automated requests, or any other means is prohibited and may result in account termination.
The Service, including its software, design, graphics, text, user interface, algorithms, branding (including the NomNomVegan name, logo, and "Nom, nom!" / "No, no!" verdict marks), and all other content we create and make available through the Service, is owned by NomNomVegan Oy and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws of Finland and other jurisdictions.
Nothing in these Terms grants you any ownership interest in or to the Service or any of our intellectual property.
You retain ownership of User Content you submit, subject to the licence you grant us in Section 5.2. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to submit any User Content.
Portions of the product database may include data sourced from Open Food Facts, which is licensed under the Open Database Licence (ODbL) and Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike (CC BY-SA) licence. No endorsement by Open Food Facts is implied.
If you provide us with ideas, suggestions, or feedback about the Service ("Feedback"), you grant us a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, irrevocable licence to use, implement, and incorporate that Feedback into the Service without compensation to you.
The Service relies on third-party services (including Firebase Authentication, Google Play, Cloudflare) as described in our Privacy Policy. Your use of those services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the practices of third-party service providers.
The Service may display links to third-party websites or resources, such as product manufacturer websites. These links are provided for convenience only. We have no control over third-party websites and accept no responsibility for their content, availability, or practices. Accessing third-party links is at your own risk.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without any warranty of any kind, express or implied. NomNomVegan Oy expressly disclaims all warranties, including but not limited to:
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, in which case the above exclusions apply to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.
In particular: NomNomVegan is not a medical device, allergy checker, or dietary advice tool. Do not use it as a substitute for reading ingredient labels or consulting a healthcare professional when managing food allergies, intolerances, or medical dietary requirements.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall NomNomVegan Oy, its directors, employees, contractors, agents, licensors, or service providers be liable for:
NomNomVegan Oy's total aggregate liability to you for all claims arising from or in connection with your use of the Service shall not exceed the greater of: (a) the total amount you paid to NomNomVegan Oy in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) €20 (twenty euros).
The limitations above apply regardless of the legal theory under which the claim is brought (contract, tort, statute, or otherwise), even if NomNomVegan Oy has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Some jurisdictions (including consumer protection laws in certain EU member states) do not allow certain liability exclusions or limits. In those jurisdictions, the exclusions and limits above apply to the greatest extent enforceable under applicable law. Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.
If you suffer harm from consuming a product whose vegan status you relied on solely from the NomNomVegan app without verifying the product label, NomNomVegan Oy accepts no liability. Verdicts are community-sourced, not professionally verified.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless NomNomVegan Oy and its officers, directors, employees, contractors, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in connection with:
We reserve the right to assume exclusive control of any matter subject to indemnification by you, at your expense. You agree to cooperate with our defence of such claims. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you of any such claim when we become aware of it.
These Terms and any disputes arising from them shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Finland, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
Any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the breach, termination, enforcement, interpretation, or validity thereof, or your use of the Service, shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Helsinki, Finland.
If you are a consumer resident in the European Union, you may also have the right to refer disputes to your local courts or to the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform (available at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr). Our contact email for ODR purposes is [email protected].
Before initiating formal legal proceedings, we encourage you to contact us at [email protected] to attempt to resolve the dispute informally. We will try to respond within 14 business days.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes any rights you may have as a consumer under Finnish law, EU consumer protection legislation, or the laws of your country of residence that cannot be waived by contract.
NomNomVegan Oy reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will provide notice of material changes by:
Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of updated Terms constitutes your acceptance of those changes. If you do not agree to the new Terms, you must stop using the Service and delete your account.
We encourage you to review these Terms periodically. The date at the top indicates when they were last revised.
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any additional terms specific to features you use (such as Pro subscription terms provided at the time of purchase), constitute the entire agreement between you and NomNomVegan Oy regarding your use of the Service, and supersede all prior agreements, representations, and understandings of any kind.
If any provision of these Terms is found by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, that provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or severed if modification is not possible, and the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms on one occasion does not constitute a waiver of our right to enforce that provision on any other occasion. No waiver by NomNomVegan Oy of any breach by you shall be deemed a waiver of any subsequent breach.
You may not assign or transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent. NomNomVegan Oy may assign these Terms or any of our rights and obligations under them to any successor entity or acquirer without restriction.
NomNomVegan Oy is not liable for any failure or delay in performance under these Terms that is caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including acts of God, natural disasters, strikes, pandemics, war, terrorist acts, government actions, power failures, internet service provider failures, or failures of third-party services we depend on.
These Terms are written in English. Any translation is provided for convenience only; the English version controls in the event of a conflict.
Section headings are for convenience only and do not affect the interpretation of these Terms.
Nothing in these Terms creates an employment relationship, partnership, joint venture, franchise, or agency relationship between you and NomNomVegan Oy.
