Stories from the founders: Why did I choose to go vegan

When I was in 5th grade, I saw a bull being loaded into a truck. I didn’t fully understand what I was seeing, but I remember my cousin saying it was going to become sausages. In that moment, something clicked in my mind. I instantly connected it to the animals I loved, and I knew I didn’t want to eat them. That day, I became vegetarian.

I have been vegetarian ever since, basically all my life, for decades. It has always been a core part of who I am, even when other people questioned it or tried to challenge my choices.

About four years ago, I took the next step and became vegan. I do feel embarrassed that it took me so long to make that change, knowing what cows go through, but I also recognize that change is a process.

It hasn’t always been easy. My mom didn’t support me going vegeterian and even told me I wasn’t allowed to. But I didn’t let that stop me. I made my own choices because it mattered to me.

People have often questioned whether I can be healthy on a vegetarian or vegan diet, but I am healthy and happy. I feel good in my body, and I feel at peace knowing my choices reflect what I believe in.

In a way, I am a bit of a rebel when it comes to things that truly matter to me. I stood by what I believed in, and it has always been worth it.
